Modern Front Suspension for Your
Chevy Advance Design Truck

Upgrade your 1948-1954 Chevy or GMC truck with a Scott’s Hotrods Bolt-On Independent Front Suspension (IFS) engineered specifically for the original Advance Design truck frame. Instead of adapting a universal suspension or Mustang II-style kit, Scott’s replaces the outdated factory front suspension with a modern independent suspension system featuring tubular control arms, rack-and-pinion steering, modern brakes and your choice of coilover or SuperSlam airbag suspension.

Designed specifically for 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 Chevrolet and GMC pickups, the Scott’s Bolt-On IFS allows builders to dramatically improve steering, handling, braking and ride quality while retaining the original truck frame. Whether you’re building a comfortable street cruiser, classic restomod, Pro Touring pickup or a slammed custom truck, each Scott’s IFS is Built-To-Order around the vehicle, desired ride height and intended use.

Replace Your Original 1948-1954 Chevy Truck Front Suspension

The factory front suspension beneath a 1948-1954 Chevy or GMC truck was engineered more than 70 years ago for the roads, tires, brakes and performance expectations of its era. A Scott’s Hotrods 1948-1954 Chevy truck front suspension kit replaces that outdated design with modern suspension geometry, rack-and-pinion steering and components engineered for today’s driving conditions.

Rather than piecing together individual suspension upgrades, the Scott’s Bolt-On IFS provides an engineered system designed to work together. The one-piece crossmember, tubular control arms, steering rack, spindles, brakes and suspension components are configured as a complete package, giving your classic Chevy or GMC pickup the foundation for improved steering response, predictable handling and a much more modern driving experience.

A True Bolt-On IFS — Not a Mustang II Kit

Scott’s Hotrods 1948-1954 Chevy/GMC Truck IFS is not a Mustang II suspension kit and was never based on Mustang II geometry. Scott’s uses its own independent front suspension design engineered specifically for each vehicle application rather than adapting a universal crossmember and suspension geometry to fit multiple unrelated vehicles.

The system features a heavy-duty one-piece 2″ x 4″ x 3/16″-wall crossmember, unequal-length 1-1/8″ x .250-wall DOM tubular control arms, built-in anti-dive, oversized serviceable ball joints, forged steel spindles and fully adjustable stainless steel upper control-arm rod ends. Scott’s does not use a three-piece crossmember with spring-pocket hats or T-bolt slider adjusters. Every Scott’s IFS is 100% TIG-welded and assembled using 5/8-inch or larger Grade 8 hardware.

Keep Your Original Frame — Upgrade the Suspension

Not every classic truck build requires a completely new chassis. For builders with a solid original frame who want modern steering, suspension and braking performance, the Scott’s Bolt-On IFS provides a way to modernize the front of the truck without replacing the entire frame.

This makes the system ideal for builders who want to retain more of their original 1948-1954 Chevy or GMC truck while gaining the benefits of independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, modern disc brakes and adjustable ride height. For projects requiring an entirely new foundation, Scott’s also manufactures complete Built-To-Order 1948-1954 Chevy/GMC truck chassis.

A qualified professional mechanic or fabricator with the technical understanding of product function and installation procedures must install all Scott’s Hotrods products. Be sure to properly bleed your power rack

Coilover IFS

For builders focused on handling, performance and a controlled street ride, the coilover 1948-1954 Chevy truck IFS provides adjustable suspension performance in a compact, modern package. Scott’s configures the system around the truck’s intended ride height and use, making it equally at home beneath a comfortable street cruiser or a performance-oriented restomod.

SuperSlam Airbag IFS

For builders who want an extremely low stance with adjustable ride height, Scott’s can configure the 1948-1954 Bolt-On IFS around Slam Specialties air springs and external RideTech shocks. The airbag suspension is engineered as part of the system rather than simply substituting an air spring for a coilover, allowing the suspension geometry and ride height to be considered from the beginning of the build.

Built Specifically for 1948-1954 Chevy & GMC Advance Design Trucks

The 1948-1954 Chevrolet and GMC Advance Design trucks have become some of the most popular platforms for traditional hot rods, restomods and modern performance builds. Scott’s Bolt-On IFS is engineered specifically for these trucks, allowing owners to retain the original frame while replacing the factory front suspension with a modern independent suspension system.

Whether you’re upgrading a 1948 Chevy 3100, 1949 Chevy truck, 1950 Chevrolet pickup, 1951 Chevy 3100, 1952 GMC, 1953 Chevy truck or 1954 Chevrolet pickup, Scott’s configures the suspension around the specific application and desired stance rather than relying on a generic one-size-fits-all suspension kit.

Transform the Way Your 1948-1954 Chevy or GMC Truck Drives

You don’t have to replace your entire frame to completely change the way your classic Advance Design truck drives. A Scott’s Hotrods 1948-1954 Chevy/GMC Bolt-On IFS gives your original frame a modern foundation with independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, tubular control arms, modern disc brakes and the stance you want.

Whether you’re restoring a Chevy 3100, building a Pro Touring pickup, creating a comfortable highway cruiser or laying an Advance Design truck low on air suspension, every Scott’s IFS is Built-To-Order around the truck you’re actually building. With heavy-duty American-made construction, Scott’s proprietary suspension geometry and 100% TIG-welded craftsmanship, you’re not simply replacing old suspension parts — you’re transforming the entire front end of the truck.
