Modern Performance for the Original Rocket 88

Transform your 1949–1953 Oldsmobile 88 with a completely new Scott’s Hotrods custom chassis engineered specifically for your car. Whether you’re building a restored-looking Rocket 88 with modern road manners, a powerful restomod or a low-slung custom, every Scott’s chassis is Built-To-Order around your vehicle, drivetrain, wheel and tire combination, suspension choice and desired ride height.

This isn’t a universal frame adapted to fit an early Oldsmobile. Scott’s builds each 1949–1953 Oldsmobile 88 chassis specifically for the application using our proprietary independent front suspension, Equal-Length Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension, mandrel-bent frame rails and heavy-duty components engineered for real-world performance.

Built-To-Order for Your 1949–1953 Oldsmobile

Every Scott’s Oldsmobile chassis begins with the specifications of the vehicle it’s going underneath.

We account for your engine, transmission, wheel and tire combination, brake package, steering configuration, suspension choice and desired ride height before the chassis is manufactured. Engine and transmission mounts can be positioned for your specific drivetrain, eliminating much of the compromise associated with adapting a generic chassis to a custom build.

Whether you’re keeping Oldsmobile power under the hood or building around a modern engine and transmission combination, the goal is the same: build the chassis around the car instead of forcing the car to work around the chassis.

Scott’s IFS — Not Mustang II

At the front is Scott’s proprietary Independent Front Suspension, engineered and manufactured by Scott’s Hotrods rather than relying on a Mustang II-style suspension.

The system uses a one-piece 2″x4″x3/16″-wall IFS crossmember, heavy-duty 1-1/8″x.250-wall DOM tubular upper and lower control arms, built-in anti-dive geometry, serviceable press-in ball joints and Scott’s CNC machined stainless steel adjustable upper control-arm rod ends.

Depending on how you intend to use your Oldsmobile, the chassis can be configured with coilovers for cruising through performance-oriented driving or Scott’s SuperSlam air suspension for adjustable ride height and an extremely low stance.

Equal-Length Parallel 4-Bar Rear Suspension

Out back, Scott’s uses our Equal-Length Parallel 4-Bar Rear Suspension rather than leaf springs.

Heavy-duty DOM link bars and CNC machined stainless steel rod ends provide a strong, fully adjustable rear suspension system, while a Moser Ford 9-inch rear axle housing with 31-spline axles comes standard.

For higher-performance builds, I’d mention the available Moser M9 FAB rear housing and Scott’s Watt’s Link here as upgrades. Your current page already lists both.

Coilover Chassis

For an Oldsmobile that’s going to spend serious time on the road, Scott’s Coilover Chassis delivers modern suspension performance while allowing the vehicle to retain the classic stance appropriate for the build.

From comfortable cruising to aggressive Pro-Touring-inspired builds, the chassis can be configured around the way you actually intend to drive the car.

SuperSlam Airbag Chassis

Want your 1949–1953 Oldsmobile 88 sitting extremely low?

Scott’s SuperSlam Chassis replaces the coilovers with an air suspension configuration designed around substantially greater suspension travel and adjustable ride height. The chassis can be engineered around the desired stance from the beginning rather than adding airbags to a chassis that wasn’t designed for them.

Extremely low ride heights may require floor, body or other vehicle modifications.

Built in Knoxville, Tennessee

Every Scott’s 1949–1953 Oldsmobile 88 chassis is built in-house in Knoxville, Tennessee using American-sourced materials and components wherever possible.

The chassis features mandrel-bent 2″x4″ frame rails and 100% TIG-welded construction, backed by Scott’s commitment to quality, engineering and workmanship.

From a mild Rocket 88 cruiser to an aggressive restomod or ground-hugging custom, your chassis is built specifically for your Oldsmobile—not pulled off a shelf.

Build Your 1949–1953 Oldsmobile 88 on a Better Foundation

The Oldsmobile Rocket 88 helped define American performance. More than seven decades later, Scott’s Hotrods can give it the chassis technology to match.

With Scott’s proprietary IFS, Equal-Length Parallel 4-Bar rear suspension, Moser Ford 9-inch rear end, rack & pinion steering, 100% TIG-welded construction and a Built-To-Order design, a Scott’s chassis gives your 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952 or 1953 Oldsmobile 88 a modern foundation without taking away the character that made these cars iconic.
